The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP CIDG) has identified the prime suspect in the shooting of Talk ‘N Text center Ali Peek.
A certain Edgar Vite from Nueva Ecija has been identified by witnesses as the assailant in the shooting of Peek last November 7 at the parking lot of the RFM Sports Center in Pioneer in Mandaluyong City.
CIDG confirmed that Vite is the person on the composite sketch released by the police through a text from a concerned citizen cross-referenced with a driver’s license from the Land Transportation Office.\

The sketch and the picture were shown to witnesses, who identified Vite as the suspect.
A charge of frustrated murder has been filed at the Mandaluyong City Prosecutor’s Office. CIDG is waiting for the prosecutor to determine whether the charge has probable cause. Afterward, the case will be filed in court, where a warrant for the arrest of the suspect will be issued.
The warrant is expected to be released this month.
Police are looking at a personal grudge as the main angle for the shooting of Peek, after ruling out robbery.
CIDG deputy chief Danilo Macerin said that Vite is a hired killer. Police are still looking for the mastermind in the shooting.
Meanwhile, Peek has been attending practice for Talk ‘N Text, which starts its Philippine Cup semifinals series against Petron Blaze on Thursday. Peek began working out with the team last Tuesday after being cleared by doctors to play last month.
According to Talk ‘N Text assistant coach Josh Reyes, the team hasn’t been talking about the shooting incident, focusing instead on basketball.
Reyes added that there is a possibility that Peek would suit up for the Tropang Texters against the Boosters in their opening match.
