MANILA, Philippines – Sweet-shooting Nino Canaleta led Barangay Ginebra Kings to a 85-77 victory over the Alaska Aces in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.

The lanky wingman torched the hoops with a game-high 21 points to go with his 8 rebounds and 1 block, according to PBA.ph.

Ginebra coach Siot Tanquincen was impressed with Canaleta’s performance.
"He played big for us especially his ability to spread the floor and at the same time and play as added rebounder because he's really long," said Tanquincen.

"It’s a luxury to have somebody who can shoot that well, at the same time help us in rebound," he added.

Near the end of the game, the Kings burned the Aces with 11 shots from the 3-point area.

Six of them came from Mike Cortez, JC Intal and Jayjay Helterbrand, who finished with 13, 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Sonny Thoss scored 13 points for Alaska, which also had 5 other players delivering double figures.

The Aces, however, could not handle Ginebra’s defense and accurate outside shooting.

"That's really our target, to play better defense, more than anything else," said Tanquincen.

Ginebra now has 5 wins in 10 starts, while Alaska absorbed its 8th loss against 3 wins.
