If everything falls together, fans of Barangay Ginebra may finally see the frontcourt upgrade that they’ve been praying for.

The Gin Kings are in talks to acquire B-MEG’s Rico Maierhofer and Barako Bull’s Allein Maliksi, a pair of forwards who could inject a dose of athleticism to the frontcourt of the league’s crowd darlings.

According to a source close to the Ginebra camp, the team is planning to send Yancy de Ocampo to B-MEG and Jimbo Aquino to Barako Bull in the deal, even as other details are still up in the air.In an interview with InterAKTV last week, Ginebra coach Siot Tanquingcen hinted at possible trades for his team.

“There will be changes along the way,” he said. “We made some recommendations regarding the players we need, but we just have to wait for it because we don’t know if it’s agreeable to the other party.”

On Monday, San Miguel Corporation official Noli Eala said a trade has been finalized, the details of which will be submitted to the PBA Commissioner’s Office for approval. Eala, however, refused to divulge any details of the deal he mentioned.

League commissioner Chito Salud has the right to revise deals he deems unfair.

Maierhofer won the league’s Rookie of the Year award in 2010, but is coming off an ACL injury which caused him to miss parts of last season. Maliksi, on the other hand, is the No. 8 overall pick in this year’s draft and was the inaugural Most Valuable Player of the PBA D-League.

Ginebra has been looking to upgrade its frontcourt since the departure of starting power forward Rudy Hatfield, who left the team midway through last season.
