FINALS: Powerade Tigers 1 - 3 Talk N Text Tropang Texters

MANILA, Philippines – The attack on Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player Ali Peek was premeditated, according to police.

This means that there was a clear intent on the part of the attacker to kill the 6-foot-4 Talk 'N Text forward-center.

“Ang intensyon talaga para patayin dahil 'yung target n'ya parang sa ulo,” said Mandaluyong Police chief Senior Superintendent Armando Bolalin.

Bolalin ruled out the robbery angle, saying that the suspect immediately fired at Peek.

"Kasi sa robbery, tinututukan muna. Then 'pag-resist, saka n'ya binabaril. Pero iyon, immediately pinutukan kaagad eh," he said.

Peek was shot in the neck Monday night by a still unidentified gunman in front of the RFM Gym in Mandaluyong City. He was rushed to the Medical City in Ortigas and is now in stable condition.
As of Tuesday, Peek has not undergone surgery to remove the bullet lodged in the back of his skull.

Miracle
Coach Chot Reyes said it is a miracle for Peek to be fully lucid and in control of his body movements.

"He is actually very blessed ... the bullet missed his spine by 1mm, it was a hairline away from his jaw and a couple of centimeters from a major artery," he said.

While the future of his basketball career remains in question, Reyes is hopeful for Peek's eventual return."

“Si Bong Alvarez at Marc Baracel ng FEU, nabaril din and not only did they recover but they are seeing a lot of playing time, ‘yun nga lang they weren't shot in such a sensitive area,” he said.

Coach Reyes added that Peek's future in basketball remains low on the list of priorities.

Reyes accepted the Mandaluyong police's initial conclusion of a premeditated attack against Peek.

He, however, remains puzzled as to the motive because he says Peek maintained good relationships with those around him.

Talk ‘N Text teams owner Manny Pangilinan has announced a P500,000 reward for any leads in the incident. – With a report from Ginger Conejero, ABS-CBN News
