MANILA, Philippines - Talk N Text team owner Manny V. Pangilinan is offering a P500,000 reward for information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect responsible for the shooting of basketball player Ali Peek.

Peek, who plays forward-center for Talk N Text, was shot in the neck Monday night by a still unidentified gunman in front of the RFM Gym in Mandaluyong City. He was rushed to the Medical City in Ortigas and is now in stable condition.

Talk N Text head coach Chot Reyes posted the announcement on his Twitter account.

In an interview with ANC, Reyes also said that Peek may be in a state of 'semi-shock.'

"He's a very strong person," Reyes said of the 6-foot-4 forward/center. "But obviously these things have a way of getting to you."

"He's in a state of what I might call semi-shock. The enormity of what happened is just starting to sink in," Reyes added.

Possible surgery

Although Peek is in stable condition, the bullet remains lodged at the base of his skull, Reyes said.

"Ali and his mother will have to make a decision on whether to remove the bullet, have it surgically removed or leave it there, because it's going to be quite difficult to remove it," he added.

Reyes said they were informed by doctors that there is no immediate need to perform surgery as long as there was no swelling around the area.

"He's very lucid, he knows what's going on, he doesn't feel any pain," Reyes said, but added that Peek will be continuously under observation.

Other players of the Talk N Text team, including last season's MVP Jimmy Alapag stayed with Peek overnight at the Medical City.

Police on Tuesday released a computerized sketch of the gunman who shot Peek.

Mandaluyong police chief Senior Superintendent Armando Bulalin said the suspect appeared to be between ages 32 and 36, 5'5" to 5'6" tall, medium in built, and with dark complexion.

Police authorities are now getting statements from witnesses.

One witness said he thought the gunman was there just to watch the game.

“Akala namin nanunuod lang ng laro, kasi lumapit pa siya dun sa mismong nagbabantay ng gym. Nag-inquire pa kung magkano yun per hour,” said one of the witnesses.

The witness said he and two others asked Peek if they could have his picture taken with him. Immediately after, Peek was shot on the neck.

“Titignan namin yung camera, kasi tinitignan namin yung pictures namin. Maya-maya may putok, so pagtingin namin si Ali Peek nakahawak na sa batok,” he said. -- With reports from ANC; Jeck Batallones, ABS-CBN News; and Johnson Manabat, dzMM
