Calvin Abueva of San Sebastian and Ray Parks of National University top the list of this year’s Mythical Five in the Collegiate Basketball Awards presented by the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps and SMART to be held January 21 at the Gateway Suites in Cubao, Quezon City.

Abueva and Parks, the Most Valuable Players of the NCAA and UAAP respectively, join Ateneo’s Greg Slaughter and Kiefer Ravena and Garvo Lanete of San Beda on the list for their notable performances this season.

The Mythical Five is one of the major awards in the yearly event presented by scribes from broadsheets, tabloids and online publications covering the collegiate hoops beat.

The six-foot-four Abueva played with a lot of intensity this season posting double-double marks as San Sebastian finished the NCAA season in second place behind the San Beda Red Lions.

Even though NU didn’t make the playoffs this season, Parks, the son of seven-time PBA Best Import Bobby Sr., showcased his scoring and athletic abilities that gave the Bulldogs a reason to be optimistic about their future.

Slaughter and Ravena played for Ateneo in their first year but they powered the Blue Eagles all season en route to their fourth straight title in the UAAP.

Lanete missed the NCAA finals due to a sickness but his sweet shooting arsenal allowed the Red Lions to win 16 of their 18 games in the elimination round.

Parks, Slaughter, Ravena and Lanete also took part in the Sinag Pilipinas team that took home the gold medal in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.
