FINALS: Powerade Tigers 1 - 3 Talk N Text Tropang Texters

Denok Miranda keyed a fourth-quarter break-away to lift Petron Blaze to a hard-earned 75-66 win over Barako Bull Friday in the 2011 PBA Philippine Cup at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Miranda had seven points in the Boosters’ decisive 15-2 run to turn a 60-62 deficit into a 75-64 advantage with 1:19 remaining as Petron notched its fourth straight win for a third-best 7-3 win-loss mark.

The 6’0 former FEU guard finished with a game-high 21 points while Arwind Santos added 15 markers and 14 rebounds. The comebacking Lordy Tugade contributed 11 in his return with the Boosters.

“Denok (Miranda) played like noong championship (Governors’ Cup finals). Nung off ang shooters namin, he stepped up. Lordy stepped up big also,” said Petron head coach Ato Agustin.
“Nag-stick kami sa game plan. Sa first two quarters marami kami turnovers, e ang Barako No. 1 sa turnover points kaya nag-adjust kami sa second half,” he added.

Willie Miller and Dorian Pena each had 16 points for the Energy, who dropped to 5-4.

Mick Pennisi contributed 12 before he was ejected at 1:35 mark of the fourth period after getting his second technical foul due to his flagrant foul 1 on Santos.

Barako Bull’s last taste of the lead was at 62-60 after Wynnie Arboleda hit a three-pointer with 5:50 left in the game.

Then Miranda anchored the momentum-swinging 15-2 spurt that all but sealed the game for Petron.

The win gave the Boosters a good shot for at least the No. 2 spot in the quarterfinals.

“May chance pa kami sa No. 1. Malaking bagay yung long break kasi makakapaghanda kami sa last four games namin na lahat mabibigat,” said Agustin.

The Boosters’ final games are against Meralco, Alaska, Barangay Ginebra and Talk ‘N Text.
