FINALS: Powerade Tigers 1 - 3 Talk N Text Tropang Texters

Talk ‘N Text hopes that the shooting incident involving Ali Peek won’t be a distraction when it collides with Powerade in the main game of the 2011-12 PBA Philippine Cup Wednesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

The Tropang Texters lost another big man in Peek, who was shot in the neck by an unidentified gunman Monday night after the player’s plyometric training session at the RFM Gymnasium in Mandaluyong City.

Talk ‘N Text coach Chot Reyes said the 36-year old Peek is now out of danger but the bullet is still lodged on his neck and doctors at the Medical City are awaiting the decision of the relatives regarding the surgery.
The Texters are already playing minus Jimmy Alapag due to a right foot injury, while Ranidel de Ocampo and Harvey Carey are still not in 100 percent shape having just come off the injured list.

Then came the incident on Peek, who is expected to be sidelined for quite some time depending on his recovery.

Facing a team that is coming off a humiliating loss also worries Reyes.

“History is a good teacher. We expect Powerade to have its best and hardest effort and game. They will be very, very sharp against us,” said Reyes, whose team is eyeing a share of the top spot with Rain or Shine (6-1).

“We have to be at our best. I’m sure Powerade is going to come out firing and play with more intensity.”

The Tigers of coach Bo Perasol were bamboozled by Barako Bull by 39 points, 117-78, to see their win-loss mark drop to 3-4.

“How we bounce back from an adversity would measure how matured we have become as a team,” said Perasol.

“I believe we have picked the kind of players that will respond during these kinds of times.”

Powerade’s main man Gary David was limited to just 5 points in that contest after scorching Petron Blaze for 42 points in their 108-94 win.

Meanwhile, Shopinas hopes to end the drought as it seeks its first win against the Boosters at 5:15 p.m.

The Clickers are the only team that has yet to win after seven matches and they will be facing a Petron five that is coming off an 86-80 win against Alaska last Saturday in Lapu Lapu City.
