Petron Blaze had just enough cushion before Rain or Shine made its move to hang on for a 90-80 win in the 2011-12 PBA Philippine Cup Sunday night at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
The Boosters erected leads of 27 points twice in the third period, then survived the mini-run of the Elasto Painters in the final quarter to notch their third straight win for the solo third spot with a 6-3 win-loss mark.
Arwind Santos posted a monster game with 25 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks while rookie Chris Lutz returned from a hamstring injury and contributed 22 points.

Alex Cabagnot also dished out an impressive performance with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists as the Boosters snapped Rain or Shine’s five-game winning streak.
“Maganda ang start namin. We limited them by 23 points in the first two quarters,” said Petron coach Ato Agustin, who also got 14 points from Joseph Yeo.
“And our game plan worked. We limited their transition points. Most of their production kasi sa transition nanggagaling. Siguro 60-70 percent doon talaga sila sa transition umaasa.”
Jeff Chan and JR Quinahan each had 15 points for the Elasto Painters, whose lost for just the second time in nine games.
Agustin said they need to continue playing aggressive to contend for the top two spots.
“One game at a time lang muna kami para gumanda ang placing namin sa team standing,” said Agustin. “May chance pa kami sa top two slots.”
