Rain or Shine recorded their third consecutive blowout on Friday with head coach Yeng Guiao comfortably watching the game on television at the press room.

The fiery coach of the Elasto Painters was ejected from the game after picking up two “Ts” in the first half. Not even his absence though could slow down the league leaders, who demolished Shopinas.com, 96-75.

It was their fourth straight and sixth overall in seven starts in the PBA Philippine Cup. Their only loss (98-107) came at the hands of defending champion Talk ‘N Text last Oct. 14.

“This is a good win for us. We are on top with a 6-and-1 record and we have a one week break to prepare for Barako Bull. We’ll enjoy this,” said Guiao afterwards.

“I think there’s a lot of positive with our situation. But in the PBA if you let your guard down sandali lang ito. So we have to stay sharp and aggressive and see how far this will take us.”

It was another frustrating loss for the Clickers, who battled the Elasto Painters to five deadlocks and eight lead changes in the first half only to fade in the third quarter.

Shopinas.com trailed 39-43 at halftime and never got a chance to get back in the game due to poor shooting. The Clickers, who have yet to win a game in the tournament, shot a woeful 27 percent (5 of 18) in the third quarter on the way to their seventh straight loss.

Friday’s lopsided win was a fitting follow-up to the Elasto Painters’ 139-95 romp over the Meralco Bolts last Sunday. To date, Rain or Shine has won it last three games by an average 33.7 points.

Guiao was visibly pleased as the Elasto Painters kept piling up the wins. He said their early success was a “testimony to our system.”

During the post-game interview, the Rain or Shine coach put himself to task for not being able to finish the game that was tightly fought in the first half.

Guiao picked his second “T” with 3:12 remaining in the second quarter for shoving Shopinas.com guard Ogie Menor, who clapped in celebration in front of the Rain or Shine bench after nailing a basket “It’s unfortunate that I was not able to coach for more than two quarters.

Pero ganoon talaga. Kailangan pagdusahan ang pagkakamali ko. Ayon nga sa kasabihan, pag pumatol ka sa sira, mas sira ka pa,” offered Guiao, who also was vanished from their game against the Alaska Aces.

Jeff Chan led all scorer with a career-high 28 points, including 4 of 9 shooting from 3-point range. He poured 17 of those in the third quarter as Rain or Shine outscored Shopinas.com, 27-10 to break the game wide open.

Ronjay Buenafe scored 12 points and Jervy Cruz had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. In a display of their competitive spirit, the Elasto Painters defeated the Clickers off the boards, 55-50 and held them to 39 percent shooting with their tenacious defense.

Rain or Shine also netted 24 points on Shopinas.com’s 19 turnovers and gained a 20-11 advantage in fastbreak points. (DBC)
