Superstar forward Arwind Santos registered another monstrous performance, finishing with a double-double to fuel the Petron Blaze Boosters in a 76-75 thriller over the Meralco Bolts in the 2011-12 PBA Philippine Cup Saturday at the Naga City Coliseum in Camarines Sur.

Santos rifled 23 points, including the game-winning jumper, along with 11 rebounds and two blocks to lead Petron to its fifth straight victory. They now enjoy the solo second spot in the team standings with an 8-3 win-loss record behind the 8-1 slate of league leaders Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters.
Petron were up for most of the game, leading by 11 points over Meralco after the third period, 64-53. But Meralco came out roaring at the start of the fourth period, dropping a 13-2 bomb led by guards Mark Cardona and Sol Mercado to tie the game at 66-all with over eight minutes left in the game.

The two teams would exchange leads since, before center Asi Taulava’s split free throws put Meralco up, 75-74, with under two minutes left.

But Santos came to the rescue, as he drained a jumper off a timeout to give the lead back to Petron, 76-75.

Meralco had a chance to snatch the victory as they had possession from a missed Santos triple with just 7.1 seconds left, but Cardona forced his signature floater against two Meralco defenders that barely hit the rim as the final buzzer sounded.

With the loss, Meralco’s record dropped to 7-5, good for fifth place in the standings.
