MANILA, Philippines — The latest addition in the rosters of B-Meg and Barangay Ginebra after a three-team trade failed to create an impact when the Llamados and the Kings clashed in the PBA Philippine Cup Sunday night at the packed Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Third year forward Rico Maierhofer played 11 minutes but only had two points, two rebounds in his Ginebra debut, while veteran center Yancy de Ocampo of B-Meg was scoreless in only four minutes of action with two boards and one assist.

Instead, it was the B-Meg regulars who delivered solid performances as James Yap collected 17 points while rookie guard Mark Barroca continued to shine with 14 markers.

PJ Simon was steady as usual as he tallied 12 markers in his return from a right sprained ankle in an 88-76 victory.

But as a team, it gave B-Meg some extra boost as coach Tim Cone had more time to focus on his three-man rotation at the power forward position with Kerby Raymundo, Marc Pingris and Joe Devance sharing the minutes.

The 6-foot-5 Pingris had 10 points and 10 rebounds, while the 6-foot-6 Raymundo also had 10 points. The 6-foot-7 Devance finished with just five points with five rebounds.

Before, Cone had to find playing time with Maierhofer, whom he feels will be more effective with the run-and-gun style of Ginebra, while de Ocampo will help them with their ‘triangle offense’ as back up to Rafi Reavis.

The win improved B-Meg’s record at 6-4, tying Meralco for fourth and fifth places in the standings behind defending champion Talk ’N Text (8-1), Rain or Shine and Petron Blaze (7-3), while Ginebra fell to 4-5, next to Barako Bull (5-4).
