MANILA, Philippines – The condition of wounded Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player Ali Peek is improving steadily.

Peek, who was shot by a lone gunman at the RFM Gym in Mandaluyong City on Monday night, told ABS-CBN News that he can now eat normally.

He even sent a copy of his photo, which showed him wearing a bandage while flashing a peace sign.

Training coach recalls attack

Peek remains under observation at the Medical City in Pasig.

His mother and sister arrived from the United States on Wednesday, but there is no decision yet on whether he should be operated on to remove the bullet lodged in the cager's neck.

His training coach, Jon Aquino, said he could not believe that there would be anyone wanting to hurt Peek.

“Ali is really a nice guy. I'm surprised really kung bakit nangyari sa kanya ito,” he said.

It was Aquino who brought Peek to the hospital after the shooting incident.

“I just heard a gunshot. I went out and saw Ali, he was holding on his neck,” he said.

Aquino said he didn’t see the gun man.

He was he was too busy helping out Peek to board his car.

“He's kind of dizzy na. Lightheaded because of the blood loss, I guess. He kept saying I don't wanna die, I don't wanna die,” said Aquino. – With a report from Ginger Conejero, ABS-CBN News
