JAMES Yap continues to lead the way for B-MEG.

The two-time Most Valuable Player reiterated the fact anew when he spearheaded the Llamados’ drive to back-to-back wins in the week that was, in the process earning for himself the Accel-PBA Press Corps’ Player of the Week for the period Nov. 28 to Dec. 4.

It was the second such citation for Yap in the conference after being similarly honored in the period Nov. 7-13 and coach Tim Cone firmly believes nobody is more deserving.

“What is most amazing about his performances is that James is doing it against great defenders and defenses that are totally focused on trying to stop him,” said Cone.

“You know, every team has such able defenders. He’s been facing some tough defensive schemes and still finding ways to be productive.”

Yap put his coach’s statement into more concrete form by averaging 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steal in B-MEG’s wins over Talk N Text and Barako Bull.

He first scattered 27 points, on 11-for-17 field goal shooting, in a 114-104 victory over the Tropang Texters on Nov. 29.

He shot 5-for-6 in the fourth period to help turn the close contest into a runaway and also finished with four rebounds and three assists.

Against the Energy last Saturday, Yap did not have such a good scoring night. But his leadership on the court and on the sidelines, plus his15 points, helped the Llamados escape with a 91-90 squeaker.

“It’s good to see that we could still win without James having an absolutely great game. That’s good for us,” Cone said after that game.

Those victories stretched the Llamados’ winning streak to a conference-best seven, improved their slate to 9-4 and moved them within sight of a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals that goes with a top two finish in the eliminations.

B-MEG could at least play off for a No. 2 slot should it win its last elims assignments against Shopinas.com on Dec. 8 and for sure Yap is foremost among the Llamados who want to point the team in the right direction (NC).
